Tokyo Olympics : Olympic swim stars enter quarantine on return to Australia

More than 100 members of the Australian Olympic team arrived in the Northern Territory on Tuesday where they will undergo 14 days of quarantine, mandatory for all international arrivals to Australia. Among the 115 athletes and support staff on board the flight were members of the swimming team that won a record nine gold medals in Tokyo, the number of which is more than at the previous two games combined.
Tokyo Olympic hockey: India face Germany for bronze, Australia vs Belgium for gold

Australia defeated Germany 3-1 in the second semi-final at the Oi Hockey Stadium on Tuesday. India had lost to world champions Belgium 2-5 in the first semi-final earlier in the day. Australia have won their lone Olympic Games gold medal in 2004 in Athens while Belgium had lost to Argentina 2-4 in the final in 2016 in Rio.

Simone finished third behind Chinese duo of Guan Chenchen and Tang Xijing. Simone ended with a total of 14.000 points after getting 6.100 for difficulty and 7.900 for execution. Guan had a total of 14.633 while Tang had 14.233. The 24-year-old American returned to competition after a week due to mental health concerns, especially the 'twisties'. Simone, the reigning world champion on the balance beam.

The Brazilian pair of Luisa and Laura Pigossi defeated the Russian Olympic Committee (ROC) duo of Elena Vesnina and Veronika Kudermetova 4-6, 6-4, 11-9 to clinch bronze in Tokyo. It was Brazil's maiden tennis medal at the Olympics after the country came close in 1996 Atlanta when Fernando Meligeni lost to Paes in the bronze-medal match.

Olympics: Wrestler Sonam Malik bows out after opening-round loss

At the Makuhari Messe in Tokyo, Sonam lost to the Asian championship silver medallist on the basis of the 'highest scoring point' rule after the two grapplers were tied 2-2 on points at the end of the bout. The 19-year-old Sonam's hopes of getting back into the competition through the repechage route were dashed after Khurelkhuugiin lost to the former world champion and second seed Taybe Yusein of Bulgaria in the quaters.

Olympics: Javelin thrower Annu Rani finishes 14th in her group, fails to advance

At the Olympic Stadium on Tuesday, competing in Group A of the qualifying, Annu -- who is the second Indian female javelin thrower after Gurmeet Kaur (Sydney 2000) to compete at the Olympics -- started the day with a throw of 50.35 metres. The 28-year-old kept improving with each throw, notching distances of 53.19 and 54.04 in her second and third attempts, respectively.
