Video clips shared on Chinese social media by the International Campaign for Tibet (ICT), a Washington-based advocacy group, show Xi addressing people in the city of Nyingtri, stepping out of a shop in the Barkhor area in Lhasa and giving remarks to the public, while facing the "Monument to the Peaceful Liberation of Tibet" in front of the Potala Palace, the traditional winter residence of the Dalai Lama.

Extending greetings to Tibet's exiled Dalai Lama on his 86th birthday, whom Beijing regards as a dangerous "splittist", or separatist, US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said calling the exiled spiritual leader's birthday an opportunity to celebrate "the message of hope and spiritual guidance that he has shared with the world".

In a message after taking oath of office here, which was virtually attended by Tibetan spiritual leader the Dalai Lama, Tsering, who holds a long and distinguished career in public service and a deep understanding on the changing dynamics of situation in Tibet and China, said the main responsibility of his Cabinet is to seek relief from the critical challenges

"Congratulations on your election as Sikyong (President) of Central Tibetan Administration. The Tibetan people will be well-served by the experience that you bring to this post after a long and distinguished career in public service," Pelosi wrote in a letter to Tsering.

India's external and military intelligence officials told IANS that senior PLA officials are touring specific areas of Tibet to raise the Tibetan-only force. But they said that most of the recruits are mixed Tibetans -- mostly children of Tibetan mothers and Han Chinese fathers or otherwise. Most of them are children of ex-PLA Han Chinese soldiers who got married to Tibetans, intelligence officials said.

Sangay made the remarks in an interview with Nadir Ali, Director of the Centre for Peace and Justice (CPJ), on the prevailing situation in Tibet, while also discussing the pragmatic and acceptable solution for the problem. According to the CTA President, long-lasting peace and prosperity for Tibet can only be achieved by seeking the middle way policy as suggested by Tibetan spiritual leader, the Dalai Lama.

Reacting to the crucial development, the Central Tibetan Administration (CTA), headquartered in this northern India hill station, on Thursday said this year's report marks a victory for Tibetans, for the report's Tibet section does not describe Tibet as an "inalienable part of China", a departure from past reports.
