India Holds Onto White-Ball Dominance, Australia Regains No. 1 Test Ranking

Australia, the reigning World Test champion, claimed the top spot in Test rankings following the annual update by the ICC. This update disregards results from the 2020-21 season and incorporates series completed since May 2021. India's drop in Test rankings is primarily due to the exclusion of their 2-1 series victory in Australia during the 2020-21 season.

India has maintained its dominant position in the world of cricket, holding onto the top spot in both One Day Internationals (ODIs) and Twenty20 Internationals (T20Is). However, there has been a shuffle in the Test Team Rankings, with India slipping to the second position, conceding the lead to Australia.

Despite slipping in Test rankings, India remains strong with 120 points, just four points behind Australia's 124. They maintain a comfortable lead of 15 points over third-placed England, who stand at 105 points. South Africa secures the fourth position with 103 points.

The rankings for teams from third to ninth remain unchanged. However, Afghanistan and Ireland are yet to play sufficient Tests to be ranked, and Zimbabwe is excluded as they have played only three Tests in the past three years. Teams must play a minimum of eight Tests over a three-year period to qualify for the rankings.

In ODI and T20I rankings, India continues to lead despite the annual updates. Matches completed before May 2023 carry a weightage of 50%, while subsequent matches are weighted at 100%. Despite losing the ODI World Cup final to Australia, India has extended its lead over them from three to six points, topping the table with 122 points. Ireland has moved ahead of Zimbabwe to claim the 11th position.

In T20I rankings, Australia has surpassed England to claim the second position but trails behind India by seven points. South Africa, after leaping two places from sixth, is just two points behind England. New Zealand and the West Indies closely follow with 250 and 249 points respectively, with just three points separating them.
