A total of 63 members voted for the bill while 23 votes were against it.The Congress, Samajwadi Party, Rashtriya Janata Dal, and the DMK staged protests while the Biju Janata Dal walked out of the House.The UCC has been in the BJP manifesto for many elections while the private member bill was pending but was not introduced.

Sources have said that Jagadanand Singh was not pleased with the top leadership of RJD and its close proximity with Nitish Kumar. After his son Sudhakar Singh was forced to resign from the post of agriculture minister of Bihar, Jagadanand Singh refused to come to the RJD office. He had also offered to resign from the post. Singh last went to the party office on October 2 and then went to his village. He also stayed away from the party activities till Tuesday.

His statement came after Rohini Acharya slammed him for playing a role of 'vote katwa' (vote-cutter) in the Gopalganj bypoll. Sadhu Yadav's wife Indira Yadav got 8,000 odd votes in the by-poll while the margin of defeat for RJD candidate Mohan Prasad Gupta was just 1,700 odd votes. Following the result, Rohini Acharya called Sadhu Yadav "Kans Mama" and said that due to him and AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi, BJP won the Gopalganj bypoll.

Union Minister Giriraj Singh said: "The victory of (RJD's) Neelam Singh in Mokama was just over by 16,000 votes against BJP candidate Sonam Devi. In the last Assembly election, Neelam's husband and 'Bahubali' leader Anant Singh won the election with a margin of more than 36,000 votes. It is a clear indication that the BJP has gained political ground in the turf of Mokama. It is a victory for Anant Singh and not RJD."

Expecting the win, a large number of male and female supporters assembled at the official residence of Anant Singh in Patna. Her son Abhishek Singh said: "There was no contest in Mokama. We knew that the battle of Mokama would be won convincingly on the day of nomination. Now the election result proved it. We have done special preparation to celebrate the day of victory. We are offering Rasgulla and Laddu to every person assembled in our house."

Coming out of the party's two-day national executive meeting at the NDMC Convention Centre here, he said that senior leader Shyam Rajak abused him when he called the latter to know about the programme's timing. "Shyam Rajak abused me, my personal assistant, and my sister today when I asked him about the meeting schedule. I have an audio recording, and I'll put it on my social media. Such BJP-RSS people should be thrown out of the organisation," he told media persons outside.
Bihar Agriculture Minister Sudhakar Singh resigns

"Sudhakar Singh has sent the resignation to deputy chief minister Tejashwi Yadav, who is also a leader of the party legislators in Bihar Assembly. Now, it is up to Tejashwi Yadav to send his resignation to the higher authorities," the RJD state president said.
