Plane goes missing in Nepal, 4 Indians on board

In a statement, the Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal said the Tara Airlines twin-otter plane was en route to Pokhara from Mustang. A search operation is underway to locate the aircraft which went missing soon after it took off from the Jomsom Airport in Mustang, the airline said. Of the 19 passengers, 13 were Nepalis, four Indians and two others whose nationalities were not immediately known.
Committed to retrieve land belonging to Nepal from India, says PM Deuba

Addressing the Parliament ahead of the Budget presentation, he said that his government is committed to protecting the land belonging to the country. Nepal and India have had boundary disputes in Kalapani area for a long time and the bilateral relations hit the bottom low after K.P. Oli government in 2020 May unveiled a new political map incorporating Kalpani, Lipulekh and Limpiyadhura - all Indian territories.

Modi arrived in Lumbini, the birthplace of Gautam Buddha and a Unesco World Heritage Site, earlier in the day and offered prayers at famous Maya Devi temple to mark the occasion of Buddha Purnima. Along with Deuba, Modi also participated in the "Shilanyas" ceremony for the construction of the unique centre within the Lumbini Monastic Zone.

At the invitation of Nepal Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba, the Prime Minister of India will pay an official visit to Lumbini on May 16. The Prime Minister of India will attend the special ceremony on the auspicious occasion of Buddha Jayanti in Lumbini, the statement added.
Nepal shuts borders with India, China ahead of polls

The government decided to shut the borders to prevent any untoward incidents during the polls which will be held in 753 local units, said the Ministry. Ministry spokesman Phanindra Mani Pokharel said that a directive has been issued to the respective administration offices of the districts bordering India and China to implement the recommendations.
India proposes Navin Srivastava as new Nepal envoy

India has already forwarded the name of Srivastava to the Nepali side for its approval before a formal announcement is made, as per multiple media reports in Kathmandu. Srivastava will replace Vinay Mohan Kwatra who has already taken the charge of India's Foreign Secretary on May 1. After Nepal's approval of the agreement, the Government of India will announce the appointment of Srivastava in place of Kwatra.

Nepal shares a border of over 1,850 km with five Indian states -- Sikkim, West Bengal, Bihar, Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand. Foreign Minister Narayan Khadka said the boundary dispute between Nepal and India would be resolved through diplomacy and established mechanisms. The bilateral ties between Kathmandu and New Delhi witnessed some tension after Nepal unveiled a new political map incorporating some disputed land currently occupied by India. Nepal and India have two separate bilateral mechanisms to deal with boundary issues.
Nepal PM Deuba embarks on 3-day India visit

This is Deuba's first overseas visit since assuming office in July last year. The Prime Minister is also being accompanied by his wife, Arzu Rana Deuba. He will begin his visit meeting with the External Affairs Minister of India, S. Jaishankar, following which he will visit the BJP headquarters and meet the party's National President J.P. During his upcoming visit to India, Nepalese Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba is seeking to strengthen ties with India in the areas of trade, investment, connectivity and healthcare. But the main feature would be the launch of cross border railway project that is funded by India.
