French Open: Kasatkina storms past Giorgi to reach quarterfinals

Former World No.10 Kasatkina has yet to drop a set and indeed has conceded just 14 games in four matches so far. She has only lost serve on two occasions - neither to Giorgi, against whom she saved all six breakpoints. The 25-year-old Kasatkina had not reached the second week of a Grand Slam since making back-to-back quarterfinals at Roland Garros and Wimbledon in 2018.

The 35-year-old Nadal survived a major scare from Canada's Felix Auger-Aliassime in front of a packed crowd on Court Philippe Chatrier before advancing 3-6, 6-3, 6-2, 3-6, 6-3 and improving to 109-3 at the clay-court major. In a gripping clash, Nadal lost the first set in a match at Roland Garros for just the 11th time. However, the Spaniard kept his composure to move into the last-eight after four hours and 23 minutes.

The top seed came up with a high-quality fourth-round performance as he saved seven break points while converting six of his own in a 6-1, 6-3, 6-3 victory to set a quarterfinal showdown with 13-time champion Rafael Nadal or Felix Auger-Aliassime in the French capital. Djokovic improved to 16-0 in fourth-round matches here in Paris as he registered another straight-sets victory after easing past Yoshihito Nishioka, Alex Molcan and Aljaz Bedene in his opening three rounds.

He broke back immediately and held to love in his next five service games, winning 23 straight points on serve as he took the contest out of a potentially tricky third-round contest.

He extended that run on Friday by beating Bedene 6-3, 6-3, 6-2 in a third-round clash. Djokovic had not fallen before the quarter-finals in Paris in 13 years and his now 195th-ranked opponent - whose recent seasons were littered with injuries - faced a huge task to land his first win in the pair's four meetings.

Kanepi, who at nearly 37 is twice Gauff's age, was bidding for her second win over a seeded player this fortnight, having beaten No.10 seed Garbine Muguruza in the first round, but No.18 seed Gauff had little trouble in the 83-minute victory. Saina and Lucie, seeded 10th, beat the Italian pair of Jasmine Paolini and Martina Trevisan 4-6, 6-2, 6-1 in one hour and 58 minutes. Paolini and Trevisan started serving in the first set and both the doubles teams held serves till the ninth game. However, four unforced errors in the 10th game cost Sania Mirza and Lucie Hradecka the first set and they trailed 1-0 in the match.
French Open: Iga Swiatek beats Riske, sprints to 30th consecutive win

Swiatek hit 23 winners to 15 unforced errors in 61 minutes and lost just 10 points in seven service games. She improved to 3-0 against Riske with the victory, with all three wins coming on clay; they played in both Madrid and Rome last year. Over the course of her winning streak, the Pole star has been on the record saying that she's been taking her matches just one point at a time.That mentality was on full display against Riske at the start of the second set.
