Appointing contingent worker non-compliance of IT rules, Delhi HC to Twitter

Senior advocate Sajan Poovayya, representing Twitter, submitted before the court that two affidavits have been filed in connection with the appointments of chief compliance officer and grievance officer and the microblogging site will no longer use the word "interim". A single judge bench of Justice Rekha Palli, however, objected to the use of word "contingent worker" in the appointments.

A bench of Justice Pratibha M. Singh directed the Delhi government to decide, within six weeks, on an assurance given by Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on March 29, 2020 to pay the rent of migrant workers in view of the Covid-19 pandemic. He had said if any tenant is unable to pay the rent due to poverty, the government would pay his/her rent on their behalf.
'SC, HCs can't be directed to decide a matter within fixed time-frame'

Advocate Mahfooz Ahsan Nazki, representing the Andhra Pradesh government, informed the top court that state seeks to withdraw the SLP, and it will file the counter affidavit before the high court, together with the application to vacate the stay. Defamatory Content: HC directs activist Saket Gokhale to delete tweets against minister Puri's wife

Justice C. Hari Shankar made it clear if Gokhale, fails to delete the tweets, then Twitter is directed to take down those URLs. The court has also barred him from posting any defamatory content against Puri and her husband on any platform. Puri had filed the suit against Gokhale. She moved the high court through law firm Karanjawala & Co. claiming that the tweets were defamatory, malicious and based on false information.
'Speaker decides disputes in house': Delhi HC junks Chirag Paswan's plea

Dismissing the plea, a bench of Justice Rekha Palli said: "The right to decide the internal disputes of the House rests with the Speaker." The court said it did not see any merit in the averments raised by the petitioner and also pointed out that petition is a way to settle scores. Solicitor General Tushar Mehta, appearing for the Centre, submitted that the petition was "blissfully vague" in the context of basic constitutional issues.
HC: Uniform Civil Code can't remain mere hope, modern India needs it

The court said that the hope expressed in Article 44 of the Constitution that the state shall secure for its citizens Uniform Civil Code "ought not to remain a mere hope". A single bench of Justice Prathiba M. Singh said, the need for a Uniform Civil Code as envisioned under Article 44, has been reiterated from time to time by the Supreme Court. She said courts have been repeatedly confronted with the conflicts that arise in personal laws.
Police detains DUSU President and ABVP members while protest against state government
