Congress General Secretary Ajay Maken said, "The consensus is that along with being administratively beneficial, the unification of the municipal corporations will improve its financial position. The Union government should have brought this Bill at least six months earlier to prevent any delay in MCD elections."

Appearing before the court, the former Minister stated that she had earlier filed divorce petition against her husband in 2012 and the court had issued notice to her husband for filing his reply. Meanwhile, she contested the Assembly election from Sarojini Nagar seat in 2017 and became an MLA. Thereafter, she became a Minister also and her divorce petition was dismissed in 2018 as she could not appear before the court.

Uttarakhand's Chief Minister-designate Pushkar Singh Dhami met Governor Lt Gen (Retd) Gurmit Singh on Monday evening to officially stake claim to form the new government in the state. Sources said that the swearing-in ceremony of the new government is likely to be held on March 23-24. Earlier, Dhami was elected as the leader of BJP's legislative party at a meeting in Dehradun, held in the presence of central observers Rajnath Singh and Meenkshi Lekhi.

With electoral victories in four out of five states, the BJP is gearing up for the government formations in the states. From the capital of the states to the capital of the country, the meetings are in full swing. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, party's national president J.P. Nadda and party's national organisation general secretary B.L. Santosh are continuously meeting to decide on the selection of Chief Ministers and their cabinets.

Small parties that have made a big splash in the recently concluded Assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh, are now demanding their proverbial pound of flesh. These small parties that are caste-based and have limited areas of influence, had contested the elections in alliance with either the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) or the Samajwadi Party (SP).
