World No 7 Sindhu came from a game down in her women's singles match to defeat world No 59 Thuy Linh Nguyen of Vietnam 19-21, 21-19, 21-18 in one hour and six minutes. Sindhu was caught off-guard by her lower-ranked opponent in the first game and was in a spot of bother, trailing 19-17 in the second game. However, she rallied to score four consecutive points and took the match into the decider.

Prannoy went down to Angus Ng Ka Long of Hong Kong after winning the first game, losing 21-17, 9-21, 17-21 in a 64-minute encounter here. The Indian shuttler, ranked 19th, won the first game easily, taking lead from 3-3 to 6-3 up and then maintained an upper hand winning five points at one stretch to take the lead. He maintained his 2-3 points advantage throughout.

In the men's singles, Lu Guangzu got the better of his compatriot Li Shifeng 21-14, 21-16 to reach the last-four stage. Olympic champion Chen Yufei outclassed Japan's Nozomi Okuhara 21-18, and 22-20 to reach the women's singles semifinals.

Former world champion Sindhu was knocked out of the tournament after losing her women's singles quarterfinals 21-13, 15-21, 13-21 to world No 2 Tai Tzu Ying of Chinese Taipei in 53 minutes. Ace Indian shuttler, playing against the drift in the first game, started slow and trailed 5-2 after the early exchanges. However, she soon found her footing by winning nine of the next 11 points to go into the break leading 11-7.

Sindhu, seventh in the badminton world rankings, beat world No 10 Pornpawee Chochuwong of Thailand 21-13, 21-17 in the first round. On the other hand, World No 26 Saina, who was competing for the first time since the Thailand Open in May, was beaten by 30th-ranked Iris Wang of the US 11-21, 17-21. The London 2012 bronze medallist is yet to go past the second round this year.

World No 21 Prannoy, who moved up two places in the latest badminton world rankings after reaching the Indonesia Open semis earlier this month, beat world No 30 Liew Daren of Malaysia 21-14, 17-21, 21-18 in one hour and two minutes. Though Daren began the first game with a 2-0 lead, Prannoy snatched the initiative with six consecutive points.

"The league was originally scheduled to be conducted from July 1-10. But in the wake of the international badminton calendar, and the India junior National ranking tournament in Panchkula, which might have hampered the ranking points of some of the participating players, the start date has been moved to August," the organiser said in a release.

Axelsen, who also won the Indonesia Open in the last edition, successfully defended his title after beating China's Zhao Jun Peng 21-9, 21-10 in the men's singles final. The Olympic champion, who reached his eighth consecutive Super 1000 final, dispatched his unseeded opponent in just 38 minutes to claim his second straight tournament in Jakarta following his success at the Indonesian Masters one week ago.

Though the match started with some engaging rallies, Prannoy, the world No. 23 in the world badminton rankings lost the plot as the Chinese shuttler, ranked 12 places below him, managed to negate the Indian's strong net game early. By the time Prannoy finally managed to find a foothold in the contest, Junpeng had already taken a handy lead and proceeded to wrap up the first game comfortably.
