5G service now reaches 1,662 cities worldwide: Report

According to VIAVI, which offers lab-based network test solutions, the new total 1,662 cities across 65 countries represents an increase of more than 20 per cent during 2021 to date. "Although we are seeing a significant jump in the number of networks being rolled out, not all 5G technologies are created equal," Sameh Yamany, Chief Technology Officer, VIAVI, said in a statement.

The average traffic per smartphone user in India has increased from 13GB per month in 2019 to 14.6GB per month in 2020. The average traffic per smartphone in the India region stands second highest globally.

Japanese toaster maker enters 5G smartphone business

Japanese design company Balmuda said in a statement this week that it has decided to enter the mobile terminal business (5G smartphone development and sales), which is a new product category. The company which is better known for making "Balmuda The Toaster" that sells for 25,850 yen (about $235) said it is joining hands with Kyocera and SoftBank for the new 5G smartphone.
