Qualcomm to remain Apple's primary 5G modem supplier for iPhones

In an interaction with IANS, Chris Patrick, SVP and General Manager, Mobile Handset, Qualcomm said that the company will keep on supplying its 5G modems for the next-generation iPhones and will aceremain a primary supplier" for the iPhone maker for a couple of more years. Apple is currently working on its own 5G chip for future iPhones but it may not debut until 2025. It means that all iPhone 15 and iPhone 16 models will house Qualcomm 5G modem chipsets.
Jio True 5G becomes first to cover Delhi-NCR

Jio is rolling out the most-advanced True-5G network at a rapid pace, now covers major parts of this geography. Jio significantly better than Airtel, shows Ookla 5G test report

In the national capital, Airtel reached nearly 200 Mbps median download speed at 197.98 Mbps while Jio almost broke 600 Mbps (598.58 Mbps) since June 2022. In Kolkata, the operators' median download speeds varied the most since June 2022: Airtel's median download speed was 33.83 Mbps while Jio had a much faster median download speed at 482.02 Mbps.
43% of Indians not willing to pay extra for 5G services: Report

While many more smartphone users are likely to come onboard if the shift to 5G addresses issues like call drop/connect, network availability and low speed, another 43 per cent indicated they are willing to pay up to 10 per cent extra tariff, according to the report by online community platform LocalCircles. Just 2 per cent of them showed willingness to pay between 25-50 per cent more tariff for 5G.
Apple to roll out 5G software update in December in India

In a statement to IANS, the tech giant said it is working with its carrier partners in India to create the best 5G experience for iPhone users. "We are working with our carrier partners in India to bring the best 5G experience to iPhone users as soon as network validation and testing for quality and performance is completed," the company told IANS.
5G transition: Telecom dept to meet mobile handset makers, service providers

During Wednesday's meeting, which has been convened jointly by Secretaries of telecom and IT departments, mobile handset companies like Apple, Samsung and others are likely to be asked to push for over the air (OTA) upgrades for 5G handsets, sources aware of the development said.
Reliance Jio touches 600 Mbps 5G speed in Delhi

According to Ookla's 'Speedtest Intelligence' report, telecom operators have been testing their networks and they witnessed a wide range of 5G download speeds -- from low double-digit (16.27 Mbps) to 809.94 Mbps. "This data points to the fact that the operators are still recalibrating their networks. The speeds are expected to be more stable moving forward as these networks will enter the commercial stage," the report mentioned.
Apple's own 5G modem not to arrive in new iPhones till 2025

A note to investors by Haitong International Securities analyst Jeff Pu has said that Qualcomm Snapdragon X75 modem will be used in the 2024 iPhones. Meanwhile, all four iPhone 15 models next year are expected to be equipped with Qualcomm's latest Snapdragon X70 modem. The 5G modem will be made by TSMC using a 4nm process to introduce power efficiencies, reports MacRumors.
