Samsung not allowed to sell 61 models of its smartphones in Russia
SQWIN SA claims THAT Samsung Pay is based on its electronic payment system. The company registered a patent for the technology in Russia nearly eight years ago, reports PhoneArena. The list includes 61 models, including some of Samsung's best 2021 phones like the latest Galaxy Z Flip and Fold flagships and also some budget models like 2017's Galaxy J5.
New whistleblower accuses FB of 'profits' over fighting hate speech
A former member of Facebook's Integrity team has alleged that "the company prizes growth and profits over combating hate speech, misinformation and other threats to the public", reports The Washington Post. According to a copy of the affidavit obtained by The Post, the allegations echoed many of those made by the first whistleblower Frances Haugen.

Google Meet hosts can keep participants' microphones, cameras off
The feature has been rolled for Google Workspace for Education Fundamentals and Education Plus domains. It will launch to additional Google Workspace editions in the coming months. The microphone and camera lock feature will be off by default; hosts will have to turn it on during meetings if they want to use it. The feature will be useful in all-hands meetings and training programs with globally distributed teams, as well as educators communicating with students.
Galaxy Z Flip3 starts getting Oct 2021 Android security patch globally
According to the GSMArena, the October 2021 patch for the international Galaxy Z Flip3 comes with firmware having version F711BXXU2AUJ7. The patch fixes more than 60 security and privacy-related issues and the changelog also talks about improved stability of the device.
Twitter acquires group chat app Sphere
Incorporated in 2016, Sphere started out as a real-time question and answer app that involved micropayments before it pivoted to become more of a group chat app, CNBC reported. Between 2017 and 2019, it raised around $30 million from investors including Index Ventures, Airbnb co-founder Brian Chesky, Tinder co-founder Sean Rad and Sequoia venture capitalist Mike Moritz.
Instagram launches new effects to edit, perform with music on Reels
These new features - SuperBeat, Dynamic Lyrics and 3D Lyrics - will give creators easy ways to combine music and AR effects on Reels. To use these features, a user just needs to open Reels Camera on Instagram and open the effect tray/gallery. Users will need to select the effect and can even use the music picker to select a song.
Apple to launch iPhone SE 3 in Q1 2022 with LCD display
The new phone will have the new chipset -- the 5nm A15 Bionic, adding support for 5G networks. Price-wise, the phone is expected to cost the same as the iPhone SE (2020) in China and around the world -- CNY3299, or $399, reports GSMArena. Despite expectations for a small form factor, the new device will most likely be based on the iPhone XR design.
