Apple has swiftly responded to two zero-day security vulnerabilities with the release of software updates for iOS, iPadOS, and macOS. These vulnerabilities were actively exploited in the wild, prompting Apple to address them urgently.
The company acknowledged the issue in its security reports, mentioning the potential exploitation of these bugs in versions of iOS prior to iOS 16.7.1. Software updates addressing these vulnerabilities are now accessible for iPhone, iPad, and Mac devices.
Both security flaws impacted WebKit, the open-source browser framework powering Safari. The first bug was described as having the potential to disclose sensitive information during the processing of web content, while the second could lead to arbitrary code execution through web content processing.
The released security patches cover various Apple devices, including the iPhone XS and later, iPad Pro models, iPad Air, iPad, and iPad mini generations.
Users are advised to update their iPhone or iPad immediately by navigating to Settings > General > Software Update and initiating the update process. On Mac devices, users can access the update by going to System Preferences > General > Software Update.
These crucial updates are now available under iOS 17.1.2, iPadOS 17.1.2, and macOS Sonoma 14.1.2, aiming to patch the identified vulnerabilities and enhance device security.
