Medvedev lifts US Open trophy, denies Djokovic calendar Grand Slam

Djokovic, after winning the first three majors of the year, was trying to become the first man since Rod Laver in 1969 to win all four majors in one season and break a tie with Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal for the most major titles in history (20 each). But Russia's 25-year-old Medvedev played patiently to become the third Russian man to earn Slam glory, joining Yevgeny Kafelnikov and Marat Safin.
Shanaka to lead 15-member Sri Lankan squad to T20 World Cup

Sri Lanka will begin their campaign on October 18 against Namibia in Abu Dhabi in Group A of the First Round, where they have also drawn Ireland and the Netherlands. The only major omissions from the squad were Niroshan Dickwella, Kusal Mendis and Danushka Gunathilaka, who were banned for a year for breaking the Covid-19 protocols on their tour of England in July.
India lose to Bahrain in Asian volleyball opener

It was a disappointing result for India as Bahrain was the only team ranked lower than them in Group A. Japan are ranked 10th and Qatar 31st in the World, thus making the Indian team's task more difficult in the Group. Things went on expected lines in Sunday's other match in the group as defending champion Japan beat Qatar 3-0 (25-20, 25-23, 25-21).
Liverpool win at Leeds marred by Elliott injury

Henrique Fabinho and Sadio Mane added a goal each and made it a comfortable win for Liverpool. Fabinho scored their second goal in the 50th minute while Mane added the third deep into injury time. Salah became the fifth-fastest player to reach 100 goals when he exchanged passes with Joel Matip and Trent Alexander-Arnold before putting the ball in the net after 20 minutes.

Morning fog delayed warm up on Sunday in Aragon, but that was quickly burn away as the hottest day of the weekend settled in. When the MotoGP field rolled onto the grid, the track temperature was already closing in on 50°C and the scene was set for what would turn out to be a titanic clash, the hot conditions matching the action on track.
Ricciardo wins Italian GP after Verstappen, Hamilton crash out

British driver Lando Norris, in the other McLaren, finished second with Mercedes' Valteri Bottas sealing the podium position by finishing third. Ricciardo and Norris sealed the first 1-2 finish of the season. Sunday's results mean the gap between Verstappen (226.5) and Hamilton (221.5) at the top of the drivers' standings is still five points.
Shetty, Ravikumar post maiden wins in National Motorcycle Championships

Maiden win of the 2021 season was Deepak Ravikumar who led a 1-2 finish for TVS Racing with championship leader Jagan Kumar in tow ahead of Idemitsu Honda SK69 Raci'g's Senthil Kumar. The lead Honda rider, Rajiv Sethu, who was eyeing a possible win, crashed after making contact with Senthil in the last lap and eventually finished a distant ninth which fetched him one point.
Fifth Test abandoned, forfeited, or postponed? ECB seeks clarity from ICC,say reports

To date, no exact details of the series or the final Test have been given either by the Indian cricket board (BCCI) or the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB). However, there is a lot of speculation since then. And the latest one is that the ECB has now written to the world cricket governing body, ICC, to decide the fate of the cancelled fifth Test at Old Trafford; further indicating that the two cricket boards are far from settling the issue.

Shastri himself was the first to test positive for the virus, followed by bowling coach Bharat Arun and fielding coach R Sridhar too testing positive. Physiotherapist Nitin Patel had to isolate for being his close contacts from the fourth day of the fourth Test played at The Oval. On the eve of the fifth Test at Old Trafford, assistant physiotherapist Yogesh Parmar tested positive, which set a scare of outbreak in Indian camp.
