3rd Test: England bowled out for 432, lead by 354 runs
Craig Overton set the ball rolling for England with successive boundaries through square of the wicket on both sides. But he was dismissed leg before wicket by Mohammed Shami. Overton (32) reviewed it, but in vain. Jasprit Bumrah finished off the England innings by hitting the off-stump of Ollie Robinson (0). For England, skipper Joe Root was the star of the show with a masterly knock of 121.
Paralympic TT: Bhavina Patel storms into women's singles quarterfinals
Bhavina, who had advanced by finishing second in preliminary round Group A, defeated Brazil's Joyce de Oliveira 3-0 (12-10, 13-11, 11-6) in just 23 minutes of action in her Round of 16 clash. Though Oliveira took Bhavina to extra points in the first two games, the Indian was always in control of the match as she served well. Bhavina won 19 points on her serve and lost 13.
Paralympics Archery: Rakesh Kumar placed 3rd in ranking round, two others also advance
Kumar was the best placed among the three Indians, registering a personal best score of 699 in the 72 arrow ranking round in Men's Individual Compound Open competition at the Yumenoshima Ranking Field. Shyam Sunder Swami was placed 21st in the men's section with a score of 682. In the Women's Individual Compound Open, India's Jyoti Baliyan was ranked 15th with a season-best score of 671.
3rd Test: Rishabh Pant asked to remove taping on keeping gloves
Former England captain Nasser Hussain, who was on commentary duties at that time, offered an explanation for the happenings on the field. "There's a lot in the laws of the game about the webbing, but we're hearing from the third umpire, Richard Illingworth, that he wasn't allowed and he's not allowed to tape his gloves like that, so they've asked him to take that tape off."
India will lose this Test, but they can bulid on 2nd innings positives: Vaughan
"They'll lose this week, I'm pretty sure. But can you find a bit of form from one or two of those players… Rohit Sharma, Ajinkya Rahane, Cheteshwar Pujara? Sharma can't afford to get out to the pull shot once again. Virat Kohli himself needs to find form and rhythm," Vaughan told cricbuzz on Thursday evening.
Kohli's decision to start bowling with Ishant backfires
For the second consecutive day, Kohli opened the bowling with Ishant Sharma. The lanky pace bowler, who impressed in the first Test with the way he made back-to-back breakthroughs in both the innings, has the ability to strike with deliveries that come sharply into the right-handed batsmen and away from the left-handed batsmen. Notwithstanding his genius with the old ball, to start the second day on Thursday with him instead of Jasprit Bumrah defied logic.
Pitch has become slow, batting-friendly: Shami
"When the pitch slows down, your skills get affected, bounce gets lower, we managed edges but they didn't carry," said Shami to media in a virtual interaction after the second day's play. "When the pitch starts to get slow, the ball stops seaming and swinging. Everything changes. Like you saw in the morning when the pitch got slow. In such a case, you don't have to think much. If it is slow you just have to put the ball in one place," added the right-armer who was the most successful Indian bowler with 3/87.
Day 2 Roundup: China leads medal tally at Tokyo Paralympics
Chinese powerlifter Guo Lingling dominated the women's 41kg event in her Paralympic debut. After lifting up 105kg to break the Paralympic record of 104kg in her first attempt, the only question remaining for the rest of the competition was what else she might accomplish. "For me, the medal isn't the most important thing. What's more important is improving on what you've done before," Yuan said.
Neeraj ends 2021 season, aims to come back stronger next year
"The packed schedule of travel and a bout of illness has meant I have not been able to resume training since Tokyo and therefore, along with my team, have decided to cut short (my) 2021 competition season to be able to take some time off, recharge and come back stronger for a packed 2022 calendar which includes the World Championships, Asian Games and Commonwealth Games," wrote Neeraj in a lengthy post.
3rd Test: Root's 3rd ton of series puts England in complete control
Fifties from England's top three and the 23rd Test century from skipper Joe Root (121) at No. 4 took England to 423/8 at stumps, 345 runs ahead of the visitors. The England openers, Haseeb Hameed (68) and Rory Burns (61), who resumed at 120 without loss, couldn't take overnight their scores -- 60 not out and 52 not out, respectively -- much further. But the platform that they set with their 135-run opening stand was enough for Dawid Malan, playing his first Test after three years, and Joe Root to grind the Indian bowlers.
