Asian Youth & Junior Boxing: India end campaign with record 39 medals

According to information received here, Preeti Dahiya and three other Indian youth women pugilists emerged champions on the final day of the competition. India had already won 19 medals, including eight gold, five silver and six bronze medals, in the junior event played earlier. The youth boxers added 20 more medals (six gold, nine silver and five bronze) to India's tally.

Petkar had won a gold medal in 50m freestyle swimming in 1972 Games in Heidelberg. On Monday, Avani bagged gold in R2 - Women's 10m Air Rifle SH1, setting a World Record in the process. So, Petkar penned a message -- from one pioneer to another, wishing the 19-year-old Avani more records and success. Avani Lekhara won a gold medal in 10m air rifle standing at Tokyo 2020 Paralympics and become the first ever Indian woman gold medallist.

Narwal tied for the top spot with Chinese Lou Xiaolong, both with a score of 575 points. He, however, topped the ranking having shot 21 pellets into the inner 10 circles as compared to 15 by Lou. Singhraj tallied 569 points to finish sixth in the 60-shot qualifying cycle. Rubina shot 91, 96, 95, 92, 93, 93 in the six rounds of 10 shots and tied for the sixth spot with South Korea's Kim Youn-mi at 560 points. But the Korean shooter took the sixth spot with 14 shots in bullseye while Rubina had only 12. Iran's Sareh Javanmardi topped the qualifying round with a score of 572, a new Paralympic Games record for qualifying round. Hungary's Krisztina David was placed second with a score of 570 with Turkish duo Ayesegul Pehlivanlar (564) and Ayset Ozan (563) following third and fourth. Ukraine's Iryna Liakhu was fifth with a score of 561.

According to information received here, the 2021 World Youth Championships medallist Bishwamitra defeated Uzbekist'n's Kuziboev Ahmadjon by split 4-1 in the summit clash to hand India its first gold in the youth event at the ongoing championships. Bishwamitra kept his cool throughout the match and hit some precise punches before winning it. Five Indian boxers, including one woman, have claimed bronze medals.
