IND v SA: Indian Test team, led by Virat Kohli, departs for South Africa

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) shared pictures of team members Jasprit Bumrah, Cheteshwar Pujara, Ajinkya Rahane, Shardul Thakur, Mohammed Siraj, and Shardul Thakur from the flight before leaving for Johannesburg. "All buckled up, South Africa bound," wrote the BCCI on Twitter. On the tour to South Africa, which was largely in doubt due to the Omicron variant of Covid-19 surging in the Rainbow nation, India will play three Tests and three ODIs as part of the revised schedule.

Playing an early morning match at the Palacio de los Deportes Carolina Marín, Sindhu emerged 21-14, 21-18 winner to set up a last-eight clash with World No 1 and old nemesis Tai Tzu Ying of Chinese Taipei, who needed three games to overcome Kirsty Gilmour of Scotland 21-10, 19-21, 21-11 in the pre-quarterfinals on Thursday, Sindhu, the defending World Champion as she won the title when the event was last held in 2018, started off superbly, engaging her rival in long rallies and slowly building up momentum. After the initial exchanges, Sindhu took a 5-1 lead and slowly extended it, and make it 14-9. She went on to win the first game 21-14.
PAK v WI: Tour in doubt as five more members of touring party test Covid positive

Shai Hope, Akeal Hosein, and Justin Greaves, along with assistant coach Roddy Estwick and physician Dr. Akshai Mansingh all tested positive and must remain in self-isolation for ten days, or until they return a negative result, the PCB informed on Thursday. The members join Roston Chase, Kyle Mayers, and Sheldon Cottrell who had already returned positive tests five days ago. It means just 11 of the 18 members of the touring party can take the field for the third T20I scheduled for Thursday, with Devon Thomas also out through a finger injury in the first match.

Days after Kohli stepped down as Team India's T20I captain, BCCI chief Ganguly revealed that the board had requested the former skipper to not relinquish the captaincy in the shortest format. However, on Wednesday, Test captain Kohli claimed that the Indian cricket board never asked him to reconsider giving up the captaincy in the shortest format.

Kohli admits Sharma and Jadeja will be missed in Tests against South Africa

Sharma had been rested from Tests against New Zealand and was promoted as vice-captain ahead of trip to South Africa. But in a practice session in Mumbai, Sharma injured his left hamstring, thereby ruling him out of the series with Gujarat opener Priyank Panchal drafted as his replacement. Sharma had scored 906 runs in 21 innings at an average of 47.68 and was India's highest run-getter in Test cricket in 2021.

'Wasn't told not to give up T20I captaincy', Kohli contradicts Ganguly's claim

"When I decided to leave the T20I captaincy and approached the BCCI about my decision, it was received well," Kohli said. "There was no offence or hesitation. I wasn't told to reconsider it. It was received well; I was told it's progressive and it's (a step) in the right direction," said Kohli at a virtual press conference on Wednesday. Shortly before the start of this year's T20 World Cup in the UAE, Kohli had announced his decision to step down as India's T20I captain after the tournament.
