ICC Rankings: Ashwin holds on to 2nd spot as Anderson climbs three places despite Ashes debacle

In the Test All-rounders' Rankings, Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja, who missed India's away three-Test series against South Africa due to an injury, continue to hold the second and third spots respectively behind West Indies' Jason Holder. India's new white-ball captain Rohit Sharma, currently out of the South Africa Test series, is ranked fifth in the batters' ranking, while Test skipper Virat Kohli is holding on to his seventh position in the category.

The 33-year old Kohli, who departed for 35 in the first innings, could only score 18 runs in the second innings, getting out to youngster Marco Jansen. He went after a wide delivery from Jansen in the very first ball after Lunch on Day 4 of the ongoing Test. The delivery was bowled well outside the off-stump but Kohli, who pressed forward, was not able to curb his instinct and produced a thick edge, which was safely pouched by wicketkeeper Quinton de Kock.

After Kagiso Rabada and Marco Jansen took figures of 4/42 and 4/55 respectively to bowl out India for 174 in the second innings, the hosts now need 283 runs to win on a pitch which has shown high variable bounce for the pacers. Chasing 305, Shami, the hero of the first innings with 5/44, made the early breakthrough as he set-up Markram with two away-swinging deliveries and finally completed the set-up.

India have now set a target of 305 for South Africa with 51 overs left in the day. The pitch is still quick and high levels of variable bounce looming as a large factor. Wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant's quick knock of 34 was the top score of India's innings while Rabada and Jansen took figures of 4/42 and 4/55 respectively.

The result meant Australia retained the Ashes with Root now under more pressure than ever to continue as captain. Shami becomes 5th Indian fast bowler to claim 200 Test wickets

Mohammed Shami achieved the milestone of 200 Test wickets after removing Kagiso Rabada on Day 3 of the first Test against South Africa at the SuperSport Park in Centurion on Tuesday. . The 31-year-old pacer is third-fastest among Indian pacers to reach the landmark, achieving it in his 55th Test match.

After bowling out South Africa for 197 in their first innings, India -- who scored 327 in their first innings -- lost the wicket of Mayank Agarwal (4) in the sixth over of their second innings. However, KL Rahul (5 not out) and nightwatchman Shardul Thakur (4 not out) denied Proteas any other wicket at the end of play on Day 3.
