India's javelin phenomenon Neeraj Chopra has finally broken the 90-metre mark, sending a sensational 90.23 meters at the 2025 Doha Diamond League.
It was on his third throw that Chopra unleashed the javelin, piercing the mythical 90-metre point, sending the crowd into raptures and confirming his status among the globe's top javelin performers.
Even though he had been so close so many times before—teasingly close with throws in the high 88s and 89s throughout his career—the two-time Olympic medallist and current World Champion at last conquered the "90m wall." This was a long time coming for fans and analysts, following Chopra's shining career so far with success as at the Tokyo Olympics and Budapest World Championships.
The impact of Chopra's new coach, three-time Olympic gold medallist Jan Zelezny of the Czech Republic, was apparent. Chopra recently changed from Dr. Klaus Bartonietz to Zelezny, whose expertise and advice have clearly assisted the Indian star to breach his own earlier limits.
Playing in the star-studded company of Anderson Peters, Jakub Vadlejch, Julian Weber, Max Dehning, Julius Yego, and Roderick Genki Dean, Chopra's record throw not only put him at the top but also placed him with the select band of javelin throwers to have breached the 90-metre mark, with Pakistan's Arshad Nadeem being among them.
Neeraj's thunderous throw was a game-changing moment in his career and established a daunting tone for the forthcoming season.
