Award-winning director Wes Anderson's new film, The Phoenician Scheme, will release in Indian theaters on June 6. The movie is "a dark and compelling espionage tale of deception that untangles the secrets of an estranged father-daughter relationship."
The film is being released in Indian theaters by Warner Bros. Discovery and DreamWorks Animation, with distribution by Universal Pictures.
The Phoenician Scheme will be having its world premiere during the Cannes Film Festival, where it will contest in the main competition. The movie features a talented ensemble cast that includes Benicio del Toro, Scarlett Johansson, Bill Murray, Mia Threapleton, Tom Hanks, Riz Ahmed, Michael Cera, Benedict Cumberbatch, and Bryan Cranston. With his inimitable style seen in movies like The Royal Tenenbaums, The Darjeeling Limited, Fantastic Mr. Fox, Moonrise Kingdom, The Grand Budapest Hotel, and The French Dispatch, Anderson collaborated with Roman Coppola, son of cinematic legend Francis Ford Coppola, on the story for this movie.
The story is about a broken father-daughter relationship against the shadow of a highly influential, close-mouthed family business. "When the daughter, previously estranged from her mysterious father, comes home to learn about the source of her family's fortune, she discovers a clandestine world operation mired in political manipulation, surveillance, and betrayal," the official synopsis drops.
Wes Anderson revealed that he wrote The Phoenician Scheme with the particular aim of collaborating once more with Benicio del Toro. The two had already collaborated on the 2021 movie The French Dispatch. "I first spoke with Benicio about it in 2021, at Cannes on 'The French Dispatch'. I informed him at the time that something was on its way to him if he was interested.". Benicio and I began working on it very early. As soon as there were fifteen pages of the script, he'd had a look at that. There was never a stage in the process when Benicio wasn't engaged," Anderson said.
The production companies are Steven Rales, Jeremy Dawson, and John Peet.
