IPL 2022, Day 14 Highlights: Gujarat Titans beat Punjab Kings by 6 wickets

In an astonishing thriller, Gujarat Titans (GT) on Friday trounced Punjab Kings (PBKS) by 6 wickets. Both teams gave tough competition to each other. Hardik Pandya's fitness has turned out to be one of the major factors behind GT’s success. Here are the key highlights of the game:

1. GT won the toss and elected to bowl first against PBKS.

 2. PBKS lost the early wickets of its skipper Mayank Agarwal and Jonny Bairstow. However, Shikhar Dhawan and Liam Livingstone built an amazing partnership. Livingstone dominated the bowlers and Shikhar Dhawan was focusing on rotating the strick.

3. After the fall of Dhawan’s wicket, in-form batsman Liam Livingstone became more dangerous and made quick 64 runs off 27 deliveries. Jitesh Sharma also played a cameo of 23 runs off 11 deliveries. PBKS was expecting 200+ total. However, after the fall of Livingstone’s wicket, PBKS innings flattered and they lost wickets at the regular intervals.
 

4. Rashid Khan created problems for PBKS and took 3/22 in his four overs.

5.  However at the end of their innings, Rahul Chahar played confidently and hit 22 runs off 14 deliveries. 
 

6. PBKS ended up their innings with 189/9.

7. Replying to PBKS total, GT lost Mathew Wade’s wicket early. However, Shubman Gill and Debutant Sai Sudharshan built a match-winning 101 runs partnership. Shumbman Gill played the anchor role in that partnership. After the fall of Sudharshan’s wicket, Gill continued to dominate with skipper Hardik Pandya. Unfortunately, Gill missed his maiden century in IPL just by 4 runs.
 

8. PBKS bowlers, Arshdeep Singh and Kagiso Rabada were built pressure on GT batters. 

9. Match ended up with a stunning last over. GT needed 19 runs in 6 deliveries but Hardik Pandya got run out. After the fall of his wicket, Rahul Tewatia came in. GT still needed 12 runs on 2 deliveries and Rahul Tewatia struck two sixes on the last two balls. GT made 190/4 in 20 overs and won their third match constantly.  

11. Shubman Gill was declared the player of the match.

12. Brief scores: Punjab Kings 189/9 in 20 overs (Shikhar Dhawan 35, Liam Livingstone 64, Rahul Chahar 22 not out; Rashid Khan 3/22, Darshan Nalkande 2/37) lost to Gujarat Titans 190/4 in 20 overs (Shubman Gill 96, Sai Sudarshan 35, Rahul Tewatia 13 not out; Kagiso Rabada 2/35).
