In a social media update, former World No. 1 tennis player Andy Murray announced that he would be retiring from the sport following the 2024 Paris Olympics.
The 37-year-old Scot made his Olympic debut at the 2008 Beijing Games and is due to play in singles and doubles events in Paris for a fifth Olympic appearance.
Murray posted on X, "In Paris for my last ever tennis tournament." He went on to speak of his pride at the thought of once more representing Team GB. "One of my career's most memorable experiences," he called it.
In the 2012 London Games, Murray secured his first Olympic gold in singles by beating Swiss legend Roger Federer in straight sets. In 2016, at the Rio Olympics, he became the first male tennis player to win two consecutive Olympic gold medals in singles by defeating Juan Martin del Potro of Argentina.
The tennis tournaments are slated to begin at the Roland Garros stadium in Paris on 27 July and are scheduled to finish on 4 August, with medal matches of the game on 2 August.
