The Afghanistan men's team announced their 15-player squad to compete at the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2024, which is to be held in West Indies and the USA in June. Rashid Khan will lead the side.
"This year's squad has seen some new blood compared to the 2022 squad, featuring players such as Karim Janat, Mohammad Ishaq, and Noor Ahmad," an ICC report stated.
Nevertheless, Hashmatullah Shahidi, who captained Afghanistan at the ICC Men's Cricket World Cup 2023, was absent from the team; his final Twenty20 International appearance occurred in 2022.
The group also includes young Nangyal Kharoti, who made his debut for Afghanistan against Ireland in March of this year. With five wickets in three games at an economy of just 5.90, the 20-year-old made an impression in that series.
Mohammad Ishaq, a young Afghan player who participated in the 2020 and 2022 ICC U19 Men's Cricket World Cups, is another player who has secured a spot: wicketkeeper batter.
Leading the spin attack will be Rashid Khan, with Mujeeb Ur Rahman, Noor Ahmad, Nangyal Kharoti, and the experienced Mohammad Nabi.
The pace attack will be led by returnees Naveen-ul-Haq, Fareed Ahmad, and Fazalhaq Farooqi.
The Afghanistan Squad is as follows: Rahmanullah Gurbaz (wk), Ibrahim Zadran, Azmatullah Omarzai, Najibullah Zadran, Mohammad Ishaq, Mohammad Nabi, Gulbadin Naib, Karim Janat, Rashid Khan, Nangyal Kharoti, Mujeeb Ur Rahman, Noor Ahmad, Naveen-ul-Haq, Fazalhaq Farooqi, Fareed Ahmad Malik.
Reserve players are Sediq Atal, Hazratullah Zazai, Saleem Safi
