2022 Beijing Olympics: IOC does not see any need to postpone Winter Olympics

Around 55 days are left for the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics Games to begin. Earlier, the IOC had to postpone the Tokyo Olympics, which were scheduled to take place in July 2020, to the same month in 2021, because the global situation worsened amid the second wave of Covid19 in many parts of the world. But this time the IOC does not foresee a situation in which it would be forced to postpone the 2022 Winter Olympic Games like it had to do earlier.

Despite the continuous growing threat of Covid19 globally, with the onset of new Coronavirus strain, which is far more mutant than the rest strains, the International Olympic Committee (IOC)  said no to postpone the Winter olympics. Around 55 days are left for the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics Games to begin. Earlier, the IOC had to postpone the Tokyo Olympics, which were scheduled to take place in July 2020, to the same month in 2021, because the global situation worsened amid the second wave of Covid19 in many parts of the world. 1. The 2022 Beijing Winter Olympic Games are scheduled to begin from February 4-20,2022.

2. With the advent of Omicron Variant of Novel Coronavirus, it was suspected that the IOC would postpone the Winter Olympics as it had done earlier, in the case of Tokyo Olympics, which were originally scheduled to be held in July 2020, but eventually the Games were held in July-August 2021.

3. The Olympic Games Executive Director, Christophe Dubi, laying trust in the Chinese authorities' Closed Loop system to put in place for the Beijing Winter Games  said that he does not foresee any situation to postpone the games. Adding to this he said the Chinese closed loop system is very strong and capable of tackling any eventuality.

4. Dubi further said, "The Closed-loop system can control and tackle all situations, we are not saying that Covid will not move ahead but we have planned and worked out all scenarios. We have a very strong team in place there and the Closed Loop System is capable of handling all situations."

5.Juan Antonio Samaranch Jr, chairman of the IOC Coordination Commission for the Beijing Winter Olympic Games, expressed IOC's disappointment over the decision by the USA of a diplomatic boycott of the Beijing Winter Games.
