Priyank Kharge made thought-provoking remarks about the focus on community discussions when it comes to selecting leaders, particularly Mallikarjun Kharge, whose name has been suggested as a prime ministerial candidate by several parties in the INDIA bloc ahead of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. He questioned whether efficiency and capability in individuals from specific communities were being overlooked in these discussions, emphasizing the importance of merit beyond community identity in leadership roles.
He also highlighted a perceived double standard, pointing out that when Prime Minister Modi assumed power, his caste was not a subject of scrutiny. Priyank Kharge raised questions about Modi's efficiency during his tenure, suggesting that effectiveness should be the primary criterion for leadership, not just community affiliation.
Additionally, Priyank Kharge stressed that the primary objective for the Congress and the INDIA bloc should be to secure a significant number of seats in the Lok Sabha, specifically aiming for 200 to 250 seats. He indicated that the focus should be on winning seats for the constituents of the INDIA bloc, with the identity of the Prime Minister and Deputy Prime Minister being secondary concerns.
Shifting focus to the recent security breach in the Lok Sabha during the 21st anniversary of the Parliament attack, he raised questions about the actions taken against BJP MP Pratap Simha, who issued visitor's passes to the intruders. He inquired about any investigations or statements made by Simha, emphasizing the need for accountability and clarification regarding the incident.
Regarding the JD(S)-BJP alliance, Priyank Kharge remarked on the apparent disarray within both parties. He highlighted internal conflicts within the BJP during the Winter Session of the Assembly and questioned the coordination among different factions led by various BJP leaders, illustrating the challenges within the alliance.
