Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy encountered a distressing incident during his election campaign, where he sustained minor injuries due to stone pelting by unidentified individuals. The incident occurred during his "Memanta Siddham (We are all ready)" bus yatra, marking the 14th day of his 21-day campaign ahead of the state's assembly and Lok Sabha elections on May 13.
According to a statement from the Chief Minister's Office (CMO), the stone hit him on the left side of his temple while he was acknowledging the crowd at the Vivekananda School Centre in Singh Nagar, Vijayawada. Prompt medical attention was provided, and he was swiftly taken to the Vijayawada Government Hospital for treatment. Following treatment, he returned to his night halt station at Kesarapalle in NTR district.
Doctors administered a few stitches to the wound, advising him to avoid sleeping on his stomach. The YSRCP announced a temporary halt to the bus yatra for the day, with further plans to be disclosed later.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi and other political leaders expressed their concern and wished for Reddy's speedy recovery. Investigations are underway to identify the perpetrators of the attack, with Vijayawada Police Commissioner Kanthi Ratan Tata stating that efforts are being made to analyze video and drone footage for clues.
Despite the unfortunate incident, Reddy displayed resilience, continuing to acknowledge the crowd before seeking medical attention. His commitment to his campaign was evident as he resumed touring the city after receiving first aid.
Leaders from various political parties condemned the attack, with allegations and counter-allegations surfacing regarding the involvement of rival parties. The incident sparked protests by YSRCP supporters across the state.
In the face of adversity, Reddy's determination to carry forward his election campaign remained steadfast, symbolizing his unwavering commitment to serving the people of Andhra Pradesh.
