Trinamool Manifesto: Commitments Against CAA, NRC, and UCC Implementation

A notable pledge in the manifesto is the rejection of the Uniform Civil Code (UCC), a proposal advocated by the BJP in its electoral agenda.

Trinamool Congress unveiled its manifesto ahead of the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, asserting its commitment to repeal the controversial Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) and cease the implementation of the National Register of Citizens (NRC) specifically in Assam, should the party secure victory.

A notable pledge in the manifesto is the rejection of the Uniform Civil Code (UCC), a proposal advocated by the BJP in its electoral agenda.

This manifesto echoes the resounding stance articulated by Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee against the NRC, CAA, and UCC during her recent public addresses. Banerjee contends that these issues are interconnected and represent the BJP's strategy to homogenize the diverse social and cultural fabric of the nation.

Branded as 'Didir Shopoth' (Didi's Promise), Trinamool's manifesto is positioned as a counter to the BJP's 'Modi Ki Guarantee'.

Presented by former West Bengal Finance Minister Amit Mitra, who currently serves as the Chief Economic Advisor to the state government, the manifesto outlines plans to enhance the healthcare system by replacing the Ayushman Bharat scheme with a more comprehensive alternative, ensuring coverage of up to Rs 10 lakh.

Furthermore, the manifesto commits to tripling the number of scholarships available for Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, and Other Backward Classes.

In a bid to support senior citizens, the manifesto pledges to raise the old-age pension for individuals aged 60 and above to Rs 1,000 per month.

Additionally, Trinamool vows to regulate the prices of essential commodities such as petrol, diesel, and LPG cylinders to make them more affordable. The party also pledges to eliminate the 'price stabilization fund' aimed at managing price fluctuations.

Addressing the youth, the manifesto promises one-year apprenticeships with a monthly stipend for all graduates and diploma holders up to 25 years of age. Moreover, it proposes to introduce Student Credit Cards offering up to Rs 10 lakh to facilitate higher education pursuits.

Trinamool's commitment to women's welfare includes extending financial assistance to women nationwide, akin to the 'Lakshmir Bhandar' scheme in West Bengal. Additionally, scholarships will be provided to female students in alignment with the 'Kanyashree' initiative in West Bengal.
