In the aftermath of the Congress party's disappointing performance in the recent Assembly elections in Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, and Chhattisgarh, the Trinamool Congress has voiced its concerns, emphasizing the need for a shift in the dynamics within the national political landscape.
While West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee refrained from commenting on the election outcomes, a few representatives of the Trinamool Congress in the state have taken a critical stance toward the Congress.
Kunal Ghosh, spokesperson for the state Trinamool Congress, attributed the Congress' setbacks in Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, and Chhattisgarh primarily to internal failures rather than solely crediting the BJP's success. He asserted that these state-level results might not significantly influence West Bengal's political scenario in 2024. Ghosh emphasized that Mamata Banerjee remains the central figure in West Bengal politics, highlighting her pivotal role in implementing welfare schemes, some of which were later echoed in the BJP's electoral promises in these states. Consequently, Ghosh advocated for the INDIA alliance to anchor its 2024 campaign with Mamata Banerjee as its focal point.
Echoing this sentiment, Debangshu Bhattacharya, leader of the Trinamool Congress' youth wing, underscored the Congress' failure to establish a strong leader akin to DK Shivakumar in the northern regions. Bhattacharya urged the Congress to set aside its pride and recognize the ground realities, emphasizing the necessity for sustained engagement with the people throughout the year, not just during election periods. In contrast, Bhattacharya highlighted the Trinamool Congress' consistent presence among the masses under Mamata Banerjee's leadership.
Notably, there was no formal response from the state Congress on this matter at the time of reporting.
