Anumula Revanth Reddy's political journey, from a local representative in a remote village to becoming the second Chief Minister of Telangana on December 7, is a compelling tale of determination and hard work.
Born on November 8, 1968, in Kongareddypalli, Nagarkurnool district, to Narasimha Reddy and Ramachandramma, Revanth Reddy hails from an agricultural background and is the fourth of seven siblings. With a polytechnic education in Wanaparthy and a Bachelor of Arts degree from AV College in Hyderabad, he embarked on his political career with the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) during his student days.
In 2002, he joined the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (now BRS) but later left due to a lack of recognition. Revanth Reddy made his mark in 2006 by winning as an independent candidate for the Zilla Parishad Territorial Committee (ZTPC) in Midjil mandal, Kalwakurthy constituency.
In 2007, he secured a victory in the Legislative Council elections of united Andhra Pradesh, representing the local bodies' constituency in Mahabubnagar district. This marked his entry into state-level politics. Joining the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) in 2008, he was elected to the Assembly from Kodangal in 2009, defeating senior Congress leader Gurunadh Reddy.
Known for his dynamic and spirited persona, Revanth Reddy became TDP's Telangana unit Working President and the TDP floor leader in the Assembly. He gained popularity for his active participation in debates and fiery speeches.
Amid the Telangana agitation, he remained with the TDP and was elected to the first Telangana Assembly from Kodangal in 2014. Despite facing challenges, including a bribery case in 2015, he continued as a vocal critic of K. Chandrasekhar Rao and his family.
In 2017, Revanth Reddy resigned from the TDP and joined the Congress, vowing to fight against KCR's rule. He rose within the Congress ranks, becoming the Working President of the Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC). Despite setbacks, such as defeat in the 2018 elections and a bribery case, he rebounded by winning the Malkajgiri seat in the 2019 Lok Sabha polls.
In 2021, he was chosen to lead the Congress in Telangana. Known for his aggressive approach and mass appeal, Revanth Reddy played a pivotal role in revitalizing the Congress in the state. Under his leadership, the party emerged as the main challenger to the ruling BRS within six months, pushing the BJP to third place.
Revanth Reddy's journey reflects resilience, adaptability, and a commitment to his political aspirations, culminating in his impending role as the Chief Minister of Telangana.
