Prime Minister Narendra Modi emphasized on Thursday that India has commenced the process of granting citizenship under the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA), countering allegations by opposition parties such as the Samajwadi Party and Congress, who he accused of attempting to instigate unrest by disseminating falsehoods about the law.
Speaking at a Lok Sabha election rally in the Lalganj area, Modi asserted, “The work of giving refugees citizenship under the CAA has already started. These are those people who have been living in the country for a long time as refugees and were victims of partition of the country done on the basis of religion.” Modi further criticized the Congress for purportedly neglecting these refugee communities.
“The Congress and the SP tried to spread lies in the name of CAA. They tried to push Uttar Pradesh and the entire country towards riots,” Modi alleged.
While addressing the claims made by the "INDI alliance" that they would repeal the CAA, Modi rebuffed, stating, “You are deceivers... You have ignited communal flames across the nation.”
“You are a fraud… you forced the country to burn in the fire of communalism,” Modi asserted, addressing the opposition without directly naming them.
“Do whatever you want to, but you will never be able to remove CAA,” Modi concluded.
