Following Rahul Gandhi's nomination filing in Wayanad, Union Minister Smriti Irani spearheaded an extensive roadshow in solidarity with BJP contender K. Surendran, just a day after the event.
Having previously clinched victory over Rahul Gandhi in the Amethi Lok Sabha constituency during the 2019 elections, Smriti Irani arrived at the Kozhikode airport before proceeding to Wayanad via helicopter to lead the procession.
Addressing a sizable crowd, she criticized the Gandhi family's lack of contribution to their traditional stronghold of Amethi in Uttar Pradesh. She emphasized that development only took root after BJP's triumph in Amethi, attributing progress to Prime Minister Narendra Modi's administration.
Moreover, Smriti Irani censured both the Congress and the CPI, who, despite being INDIA bloc allies, are contesting against each other in Wayanad, denouncing it as a betrayal of the electorate's trust.
As the motorcade advanced towards the Collectorate, BJP supporters rallied with chants in favor of Modi and BJP, predicting a similar fate for Rahul Gandhi in Wayanad as in Amethi.
Earlier, Rahul Gandhi and CPI candidate Annie Raja submitted their nominations on Wednesday.
In the 2019 polls, Rahul Gandhi secured a resounding victory, boasting the highest margin of 4.31 lakh votes in the state, while the then BJP-led NDA candidate trailed far behind with a meager 78,000 votes.
Kerala is slated to cast its votes on April 26th in the second phase of the Lok Sabha elections to elect all 20 of its MPs.
