Shashi Tharoor praising PM Modi with intent to join BJP for Kerala CM's post, Says Agnimitra Paul

Paul suggested that Tharoor's praise of Modi might have been in hopes of defecting to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) with ambitions of becoming the Chief Minister of Kerala.

On Wednesday, BJP MLA Agnimitra Paul questioned Congress leader Shashi Tharoor’s recent remarks praising Prime Minister Narendra Modi, suggesting that he may have a political motive in doing so.

Paul suggested that Tharoor's praise of Modi might have been in hopes of defecting to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) with ambitions of becoming the Chief Minister of Kerala.

In an interview with IANS, Paul stated: "The work done by Prime Minister Narendra Modi for 140 crore Indians is truly commendable. Anyone with even the least bit of knowledge would recognize this in recognizing the work of the Prime Minister. But, why is Congress MP Shashi Tharoor suddenly praising him? What is the reason behind it? We have heard he is looking to join BJP and want the BJP to make him the Kerala chief minister."

Paul pointed out that Tharoor's admiration for Modi is not necessarily sincere, but rather a politically motivated move.

She added, "These people will never act without a hidden agenda, usually for personal gain rather than for the interests of 'the people'. Shashi Tharoor, is your newly found admiration for the Prime Minister and the BJP just part of your journey towards being the chief minister of Kerala?"Tharoor had publicly praised Modi's 'Vaccine Maitri' initiative, announced during the deadliest days of the COVID-19 pandemic, and relied on Modi to assist India with the pandemic. He called it a tremendous achievement, saying, " India's vaccine diplomacy during the COVID pandemic stands out from the horrors, and has served as an enduring lesson of international leadership, responsibility and solidarity."

Tharoor had also supported PM Modi's perspective on the Russia-Ukraine war in March, specifically his support for resolving the conflict through diplomatic means.Referring to Modi's remark at Samarkand, Tharoor said, "This is not an era of war and solutions can be found peacefully."
