PM Modi unveils India's longest cable-stayed bridge 'Sudarshan Setu' in Gujarat

Constructed at a cost of Rs 979 crore, the Sudarshan Setu comprises a central double span cable-stayed portion spanning 900 meters and a 2.45 km approach road, enhancing connectivity in the region manifold, according to an official statement.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday marked a significant moment on Sunday as he unveiled the 'Sudarshan Setu', the nation's lengthiest cable-stayed bridge spanning 2.32 kilometers, traversing the waters of the Arabian Sea to link Beyt Dwarka island with mainland Okha in Gujarat's Devbhumi Dwarka district.

Kicking off his day with reverent prayers at the revered Lord Sri Krishna temple on Beyt Dwarka, Modi proceeded to inaugurate the 'Sudarshan Setu,' a four-lane marvel of engineering with a distinctive design. This bridge not only serves as a vital infrastructure link but also stands as a tribute to spirituality, with its footpath adorned with verses from the sacred Srimad Bhagavad Gita and depictions of Lord Krishna embellishing both sides.

The bridge, boasting a width of 27.20 meters with 2.50-meter-wide footpaths flanking each side, promises not just seamless transportation but also a scenic stroll for pedestrians.

Formerly dubbed the 'Signature Bridge,' the structure has now been rechristened as the 'Sudarshan Setu' or Sudarshan Bridge, symbolizing progress and connectivity in the region.

Situated near Okha port, Beyt Dwarka lies approximately 30 km from Dwarka town, home to the renowned Dwarkadhish temple dedicated to Lord Krishna, adding a touch of divine significance to the region.

Previously, devotees making the pilgrimage to the temple at Beyt Dwarka were restricted to daytime boat journeys. However, with the completion of the bridge, officials anticipate uninterrupted access for pilgrims at all times, marking a significant leap in accessibility and convenience.
