In a fervent address during a gathering in his Varanasi parliamentary constituency to mark the 647th birth anniversary of Sant Ravidas, Prime Minister Narendra Modi took aim at the opposition INDIA bloc, accusing its members of exploiting people in the name of casteism.
Modi didn't mince words as he criticized the opposition, alleging their exploitation of casteism for political mileage. He remarked, “They care for the well-being of their families, cannot think about the welfare of Dalits and tribals.” He even cited instances where opposition members opposed the nomination of a tribal woman as India's President.
"When someone discriminates against someone on the basis of caste and creed, they are harming humankind. If someone instigates someone in the name of caste and creed, he too harms humankind," he said.
"So, the Dalits and backwards of the country had to note that people of INDI Alliance who believe in instigating people and making them fight each other in the name of caste, oppose the policies that are for the welfare of Dalits and backwards. Truth is that they do politics of selfishness in the name of caste welfare..." he added.
The occasion also saw Modi unveiling a newly erected statue of Sant Ravidas, underscoring the significance of the revered figure's teachings.
Addressing the assembled crowd, Modi extended a warm welcome to all attendees, particularly acknowledging those who traveled from Punjab. He remarked, “On the pious occasion of the birth anniversary of Sant Ravidas, I welcome you all to his birthplace. You have come from far-off places on this occasion, especially my brothers and sisters from Punjab… Varanasi seems to have become a mini-Punjab.” He attributed India's developmental strides to the adoption of Sant Ravidas's teachings, emphasizing the transformative power of his guidance.
Modi's visit to Varanasi, starting Thursday night, is marked by the inauguration of various developmental projects and engagements with the public. Earlier in the day, he engaged with the victors of the 'Sansad Sanskrit Pratiyogita' at the Banaras Hindu University, showcasing his commitment to fostering cultural and educational endeavors.
