Prime Minister Narendra Modi welcomed Rekha Gupta and her six-member Ministerial team following their oath-taking ceremony on Thursday, complimenting the new government for its mix of experience and energy, which he hopes will guarantee effective governance for Delhi.
PM Modi graced the ceremonial function held at Ramlila Maidan, which was also attended by other top party leaders and Chief Ministers of NDA-governed states.
Following the event, PM Modi took to social media to express his best wishes. He wrote on X, "Congratulations to Smt. Rekha Gupta Ji on taking oath as Delhi’s Chief Minister. She has risen from the grassroots, being active in campus politics, state organization, municipal administration, and now as an MLA and Chief Minister."
The Prime Minister expressed confidence in Gupta's leadership, stating, "I am confident she will work for Delhi’s development with full vigour. My best wishes to her for a fruitful tenure."
PM Modi also greeted the six Ministers who were sworn in along with Gupta. He posted, "Congratulations to Shri Parvesh Sahib Singh Ji, Shri Ashish Sood Ji, Sardar Manjinder Singh Sirsa Ji, Shri Ravinder Indraj Singh Ji, Shri Kapil Mishra Ji, and Shri Pankaj Kumar Singh Ji on swearing in as Ministers in the Delhi Government. This team perfectly combines vigour and experience, and will definitely deliver good governance for Delhi. Best wishes to them."
The return to power for the BJP in Delhi after a 27-year wait comes in the form of Rekha Gupta being appointed as Chief Minister. The occasion is also a display of strength of the NDA alliance, its leadership coming to Delhi for the purpose. Rekha Gupta would be the fourth woman to take on the responsibility of Chief Minister in Delhi after Sheila Dikshit, Sushma Swaraj, and Atishi. She is also the fourth BJP Chief Minister of the capital, after Madan Lal Khurana, Sahib Singh Verma, and Sushma Swaraj.
Six ministers make up Gupta's Cabinet: Parvesh Singh Verma, Ravinder Indraj Singh, Ashish Sood, Manjinder Singh Sirsa, Kapil Mishra, and Pankaj Kumar Singh.
Parvesh Singh Verma hogged the headlines as a winner of Delhi elections having beat AAP's National Convenor and previous Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal with more than a 3,000 vote majority.
The first meeting of the Cabinet is scheduled to be held at the Delhi Secretariat at around 3 p.m. The Cabinet is likely to clear the Mahila Samriddhi Yojna, a major poll promise under which women beneficiaries will receive Rs 2,500 per month. The Ayushman Bharat health insurance scheme is also likely to receive the approval of the new Cabinet.
Earlier in the day, Chief Minister Gupta had signaled to be tough on the cases of corruption during the earlier AAP government, stating that those governing Delhi for the past 12 years would be made accountable for anything wrong.
