Delhi Chief Minister-designate Rekha Gupta on Thursday reiterated the commitment of her government to giving a monthly financial assistance of ₹2,500 to women, a major election promise. She also said that the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) will be called to account for its activities during its term of office.
Addressing journalists outside her home, Gupta said the initial amount of the support would be deposited into the accounts of deserving women by March 8, coinciding with International Women's Day.
Pre-polling, the BJP manifesto attempted to outdo AAP's promise of ₹2,100 per month of support to women if it were re-elected.
Critically addressing the past AAP government, Gupta stated, "They will have to explain every single rupee spent during their tenure."
Prior to her oath-taking ceremony at Ramlila Maidan in the afternoon, Gupta went to the Shri Marghat Wale Hanuman Baba temple at Kashmiri Gate.
Chosen as the BJP legislature party leader on Wednesday, Gupta underlined that delivering election promises is her top priority.
"Delivering Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision is the duty of all 48 BJP MLAs in Delhi. We will see that all our promises, including monetary help for women, are fulfilled. Women will get their aid directly into their bank accounts by March 8," she promised.
Meanwhile, a Union Home Ministry gazette notification confirmed that BJP MLAs Parvesh Sahib Singh Verma, who defeated former Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, along with Ashish Sood, Manjinder Singh Sirsa, Ravinder Indraj Singh, Kapil Mishra, and Pankaj Singh, will be inducted into Gupta’s Cabinet.
Speaking ahead of his oath-taking, Karawal Nagar MLA Kapil Mishra said the BJP-led government in Delhi will work to implement PM Modi’s vision for the city.
Pankaj Singh, another BJP MLA, expressed his commitment to serving the people, stating, "The party has entrusted me with a ministerial role, and I will fulfill my responsibilities with dedication."
The BJP secured a resounding victory in the Delhi Assembly elections, winning 48 out of 70 seats and bringing an end to AAP’s decade-long rule.
Gupta, a former Delhi University Students' Union (DUSU) president and municipal councilor, will take the oath as Delhi’s fourth woman Chief Minister at a grand ceremony at Ramlila Maidan, in the presence of Prime Minister Modi and other dignitaries.
