During a rally in Malda, Prime Minister Narendra Modi criticized the Mamata government for what he termed as rampant corruption by the Trinamool Congress, leading to the distress of approximately 26,000 families in West Bengal. His remarks stemmed from a recent ruling by a division bench of the Calcutta High Court, which annulled 25,753 teaching and non-teaching positions in state-run schools.
When he regretted the inability of the party to create employment avenues for the youth of the state, it is only the youth who had earlier financially supported the party that was now suffering. Furthermore, he stated that the state government and the ruling party were stealing Central funds under schemes allotted to them, and it in turn became impossible for its beneficiaries, including 80 lakh farmers who were supposed to get Rs 8,000 crore in aid.
Expressing concerns over the obstruction of Central initiatives like Ayushman Bharat and potential corruption in aid distribution to mango farmers in Malda, the Prime Minister underscored the need to curb such practices. Moreover, he condemned the government's alleged complicity in shielding individuals accused of sexual harassment, citing incidents in Sandeshkhali and Malda.
In a broader political context, he hit out at the Congress and the Trinamool Congress for getting into what he called the politics of appeasement. He said TMC allowed illegal infiltration while condemning the purported redistribution of wealth by Congress among its core voters. He claimed the two parties were secret allies in West Bengal's political terrain.
