Rahul Gandhi, a prominent figure in the Indian National Congress, emphasized the significance of the ongoing general election as a crucial battle to defend the Constitution of India and safeguard its provisions, particularly the reservations it guarantees. Speaking at a campaign rally held in the Nagarkurnool Lok Sabha constituency, Gandhi reiterated his accusation that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) aims to alter the Constitution and abolish reservation policies, contrasting this with the efforts of the Congress and its allies to uphold constitutional principles.
During his address, Gandhi underscored the pivotal role of the Constitution in securing rights, employment opportunities, and reservations for marginalized sections of society. Holding aloft a pocket-sized copy of the Constitution, he credited Dr. B. R. Ambedkar and Mahatma Gandhi for their contributions in crafting this foundational document, while accusing the BJP of seeking to undermine their legacy.
Gandhi alleged that the BJP has consistently opposed reservations, with prominent leaders advocating for their abolition. He called for the removal of the 50 percent cap on reservations, arguing that it is inadequate given the demographic distribution of disadvantaged groups.
Characterizing the BJP as a party serving the interests of a small minority, Gandhi criticized Prime Minister Narendra Modi's policies as benefiting only a select group of billionaires. He lamented the media's failure to prioritize pressing issues such as inflation and unemployment.
Highlighting the importance of fostering unity and harmony, Gandhi urged voters to elect a government that prioritizes the welfare of the underprivileged, including farmers, backward classes, tribal communities, and Dalits. He pledged that a Congress government would address agrarian distress by waiving farm loans and ensuring fair prices for agricultural produce. Additionally, he reiterated promises of providing employment opportunities for graduates and diploma holders, along with financial assistance for women from impoverished households.
The event was attended by Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy, Congress candidate Mallu Ravi, and other party leaders, underscoring the significance of the election in determining the future direction of Indian governance.
