Following Mamata Banerjee's fall at her Kalighat residence in West Bengal, the director of the state-run SSKM Hospital, Manimoy Bandyopadhyay, issued a clarification regarding his earlier statement. Initially, Bandyopadhyay had mentioned that Banerjee fell due to a push from behind, but he later explained that he meant she may have felt a sensation of being pushed.
Banerjee, aged 69, sustained injuries to her forehead and nose during the incident at her South Kolkata residence. Bandyopadhyay emphasized that their primary focus was on treating her injuries and that there was a misunderstanding regarding his previous statement.
The confusion arose when Bandyopadhyay's initial comment about a push from behind sparked speculation about the cause of Banerjee's fall. She received medical attention at the hospital, where she underwent procedures including stitches on her forehead and nose, as well as medical tests such as brain imaging and ECG.
As of the latest update, Banerjee's health condition is reported to be stable, and she has been advised bed rest. Doctors continue to monitor her closely and plan to conduct routine checks throughout the day. Despite speculations surrounding the incident, no formal complaints have been lodged, and security around Banerjee's residence has been heightened.
Banerjee, who receives a "Z+ category" security cover, was accompanied to the hospital by her nephew Abhishek, a national general secretary of the Trinamool Congress. Images circulated by the party showed Banerjee with bleeding from her forehead, prompting concern and attention from both medical professionals and security personnel.
