Pratima Devi, mother of famous Bhojpuri artist Pawan Singh, has joined the political battlefield with the filing of her nomination for the Karakat Lok Sabha seat—the very same constituency for which her son is contesting as an independent candidate.
However, no statements have yet been given by Pawan Singh or his mother regarding this, so public thoughts are there on speculation.
Upendra Kushwaha, a former Union minister and leader of the Rashtriya Lok Morcha, stands as the candidate for the NDA in Karakat. On the other hand, the RJD-led Mahagathbandhan has nominated Rajaram Singh from the CPI(M-L) Liberation party for the same seat. The impending polls scheduled for June 1 have heightened the anticipation surrounding this electoral battle.
There's widespread conjecture that Pratima Devi's unexpected entry into the electoral fray as an Independent candidate might signal a potential withdrawal from the contest by her son, who is a member of the BJP. Reports say Singh, who refused a BJP ticket from Asansol in West Bengal, has been advised by senior party functionaries to desist from contesting against the NDA candidate.
It is learnt that Singh had sounded opposition parties in Bihar, including the RJD, for a Lok Sabha ticket before deciding to fight as an Independent candidate.
All eyes are now on the developments in this electoral arena with the deadline for the withdrawal of nomination papers on May 17.
