Congress calls meeting of party MPs as ED seizes Herald House

The party has maintained that it will go ahead with its scheduled protest on the issue of inflation and GST on Friday despite being denied permission. The Congress has also accused the ruling dispensation of treating the party leaders as "terrorists". "The entire country is watching as an investigating agency has been deployed mindlessly against the leadership of India's oldest political party. You (the BJP) are treating this party, its leaders and institutions as terrorists," Congress spokesperson Abhishek Manu Singhvi has said during a media briefing on Wednesday.

The police personnel could be seen manning the road leading to the party headquarters. Earlier on Wednesday, the Enforcement Directorate sealed the office of Young India Private Limited located inside the Herald House at Bahadurshah Zafar Marg in connection with the National Herald money laundering case. The presence of additional police force at the Congress headquarters could be a precautionary measure following the sealing of the Young India office.

Ramana and comprising Justices Krishna Murari and Hima Kohli was hearing petitions filed by the Shiv Sena and its rebel MLAs on constitutional issues of splits, merger, defection, and disqualification. After hearing arguments, the top court asked Shinde's counsel to redraft the submissions on petitions filed by the Uddhav Thackeray faction on constitutional issues, which arise out of the political crisis in Maharashtra.

After the controversy erupted over the upmarket restaurant Silly Souls Cafe and Bar, Justice Mini Pushkarna said the court perused various documents on record issued by the government of Goa and the office of Commissioner of Excise, which have been addressed to one Anthony Dgama, and not to Irani or her family members. The court observed that the Congress leaders conspired to malign Smriti Irani's reputation. The court also issued summons to the Congress leaders and directed them to remove the tweets related to the allegations levelled against Irani and her daughter.
