Shashi Tharoor gets Sonia Gandhi's 'approval' to run for Congress President

Sonia Gandhi gave her nod shortly after meeting Tharoor and a few other Congress leaders on her return following a medical check-up abroad. Tharoor, who was one of the G-23 members of the party who had demanded sweeping reforms in the Congress, is now likely to throw his hat into the ring for the race to the top party post, voting for which will be held on October 17.

Patra Chawl case: Mumbai court extends Sanjay Raut's judicial custody till Oct 3

Sanjay Raut was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) on August 1 in connection with the alleged Patra Chawl redevelopment scam case, and has been in custody since. The ED had recorded the Sena MP's statement and later raided his home on July 31, detained and then arrested him early on August 1.
SP march to UP Assembly stopped, Akhilesh on dharna

Led by SP president Akhilesh Yadav, about 119 MLAs and MLCs, along with other party leaders, started marching towards the Assembly on Monday morning but were stopped by the police since they did not have the requisite permission. Police officials asked the SP MLAs to take an alternative route to the Assembly but they refused.
AAP's MCD poll in-charge Durgesh Pathak joins ED probe in excise policy scam

Durgesh Pathak reached the ED office at around 10.30 a.m. He signed the entry register and went inside the building. Sources said that recently when the ED conducted raids in the case, Pathak was found at the house of Vijay Nair in Mumbai. Nair is an alleged accused in the matter. At that time the ED had reportedly seized his mobile phone, and a few more things were recovered from his phone.
UP Assembly session from today September 22 reserved for women members

Conspiracy behind Y.S. Rajasekhar Reddy's death, am also a target, alleges daughter

Sharmila, who is on a Telangana padayatra, also made the sensational claim that plans are afoot to kill her also. Rajasekhar Reddy had lost his life in a helicopter accident in December 2009, a few months after leading the Congress to its second consecutive victory in the Assembly polls. Addressing media in Mahbubnagar, Sharmila said:" Y.S. Rajasekhar Reddy's death is the result of a conspiracy and attempts are being made to kill me too. But KCR, Telangana Chief Minister, should remember that I'm YSR's daughter and fearless."
