Digvijaya Singh sentenced to one year jail in decade-old case, granted bail
Later on Saturday evening, all the convicted persons were released on bail after furnishing an amount of Rs 25,000 each. After getting bail, Singh said that he has been falsely framed in the case, and he will challenge the decision in the high court. BJD registers landslide victory in urban body polls
The State Election Commission (SEC) conducted elections for 109 ULBs on March 24. The results of 105 municipalities/notified area councils (NACs) and three municipal corporations of Bhubaneswar, Cuttack and Berhampur were declared on Saturday. However, the counting of votes of Dhamnagar NAC was halted due to some reason, sources said. Instead of declaring "The Kashmir Files" tax-free, Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant should have emulated his predecessor late Manohar Parrikar, and lowered the VAT on fuel prices, Congress MLA Yuri Alemao said on Saturday. "The Chief Minister has declared the film tax-free. The loss to the state exchequer would have gone to the director as benefit or the producer of that particular film," Alemao told reporters at the state legislative assembly complex.
Yogi extends free ration scheme by three months
In his first decision after taking over the reins of Uttar Pradesh for the second time in a row, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Saturday announced to extend the free ration scheme by three more months. Talking to reporters here, the Chief Minister said that under the scheme, costing around Rs 3,270 crore, approximately 15 crore people of the state will be provided pulses, oil, salt and sugar, besides food grains, free of cost.
