Swati Maliwal, the former chairperson of Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) and a member of Rajya Sabha representing AAP, reportedly faced an assault at the official residence of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal. Allegedly, a close aide of the CM was involved in the incident. Though Maliwal had informed the police, she had not lodged a formal complaint.
The National Commission for Women has intervened in the incident, stating that it would do all for the justice of Maliwal. They have called upon the Delhi Police to take cognizance of the incident and have sent an inquiry team. Additionally, the NCW announced their intention to request an action taken report from the Delhi Police within three days.
According to DCP (North) Manoj Kumar Meena, a PCR call reporting the assault was received at 9:34 a.m. on Monday at the Civil Lines police station. Maliwal later came to the police station but did not lodge a proper complaint, saying she would do it later.
In the PCR call, Maliwal said she was being assaulted by the Chief Minister's PA, Bibhav Kumar, at the CM's residence. Acting on the call, the police team rushed to the spot but found Maliwal was not present there.
There has been no official reaction from either Maliwal or AAP, but the incident has stirred a political controversy. The BJP lambasted Kejriwal, holding him responsible and termed the incident a 'plot to abuse and harass dissenters' at his residence.
