BJP President and Union Minister J.P. Nadda has sharply condemned Sonia Gandhi's remarks referring to President Droupadi Murmu as a "poor thing," calling the comment an insult to the dignity of the office of the President.
Nadda expressed his outrage through a post on social media platform X, saying, "The deliberate usage of such words exposes the elitist, anti-poor, and anti-tribal mindset of the Congress Party."
He demanded an unconditional apology from Congress to President Murmu and the tribal communities of India.
The controversy erupted when Sonia Gandhi made the comment outside Parliament, responding to a question about President Murmu’s address. Gandhi said, "The President was getting very tired by the end. She could hardly speak, poor thing." Gandhi was accompanied by her children, Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, both Members of Parliament. Rahul Gandhi also dismissed the President's speech, calling it "boring" and claiming it was repetitive.
The BJP immediately launched a strong attack on the Gandhi family, accusing them of belittling the office of the President and showcasing Congress' "feudal mindset." President Murmu had delivered a speech highlighting the government's efforts to boost the economy and overcome challenges like the COVID-19 pandemic and global conflicts. She also praised the government's advancements in sectors like aviation, railways, and agriculture, while expressing concerns over digital fraud and cybercrimes that threaten national security.
