After an illustrious career spanning over three decades, Former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, aged 91, is set to bid farewell to the Rajya Sabha on Wednesday. Singh, a stalwart of the Indian National Congress, commenced his journey in the upper house in October 1991, representing Assam, coinciding with his appointment as the Finance Minister in the P.V. Narasimha Rao government. Over the years, he secured reelection in 1995, 2001, 2007, and 2013, reaffirming his commitment to public service.

His tenure as a Rajya Sabha representative from Assam concluded on June 14, 2019. However, he returned to the Upper House representing Rajasthan on August 19, 2019, succeeding the late BJP member Madan Lal Saini after a by-election.
