Following the recent statement by Congress leader Mani Shankar Aiyar, in which he advocated for India to treat Pakistan with respect, BJP leader Amit Malviya took a dig at the opposition party and posted World Bank data, which shows that Pakistan provides electricity to its citizens far more than India does due to what he called mismanagement by the Congress.
Through his social media platform, Malviya emphasized, "This single metric speaks volumes about the Congress' governance in India. Up until 2018, Pakistan had a higher percentage of electrified population compared to India!"
He continued, "Indeed, until 2018. It's no surprise that individuals like Mani Shankar Aiyar urged for respectful treatment of Pakistan."
Besides, Malviya posted World Bank statistics that show the accessibility of electricity in both India and Pakistan across the years.
According to the data, at the turn of the millennium in 2000, a higher percentage of Pakistan's population had access to electricity, at 72.8%, while India was at 60.3%.
The data indicates a significant improvement in India's power status starting in 2017, as the country's electricity supply significantly exceeded Pakistan's.
Malviya drew attention to the difference, pointing out that in 2018, India surpassed Pakistan in terms of energy access (95.7 percent vs 93.4 percent), writing, "Pakistan is now a basket case, India has surged ahead."
He lambasted the previous Congress administration and said that ineffective leadership was to blame for India's worse access to power.
The old party was still feeling the effects of the comments made by Sam Pitroda, the former head of its abroad arm, during the Indian Lok Sabha elections when the Congress politician and former Cabinet minister made his faux pas.
Mani Shankar Aiyar cautioned against using a tough stance against Pakistan because it possesses an atomic weapon on Friday, saying instead that India should treat Pakistan with the respect that a sovereign nation deserves.
