A day after voting ended in the Maharashtra Assembly elections, Axis My India released the exit poll outcome on Thursday evening, predicting a significant victory for the "MahaYuti" alliance comprising BJP, Shiv Sena (Eknath Shinde faction), and NCP of Ajit Pawar.
"The poll suggests Mahayuti can win a significant majority, while Maha Vikas Aghadi faces a setback.
The Exit Polls suggest that the Mahayuti could gain between 178-200 seats from the 288 member Maharashtra Assembly. As compared to this, MVA composed of Congress, Shiv Sena (UBT) and Sharad Pawar's NCP, is likely to get seats in the range of 82-102. The "Others" category is likely to win between 6 and 12 seats.
The Axis My India exit poll foresees vote share for Mahayuti at 48 percent while MVA will likely bag 37 percent of the vote.
Now, the snapshot of each party's performance- BJP is seen to win the seats between 98 and 107. Shiv Sena, the Shinde faction can get 53-58 seats while NCP, led by Ajit Pawar, can win the seat numbers between 25 to 30.
For the MVA, Congress is likely to emerge victorious in 28-36 seats, Shiv Sena (UBT) could win in 26-32 seats, and NCP (Sharad Pawar camp) might fetch between 26-30 seats.
If forced to choose between Eknath Shinde and Uddhav Thackeray for Chief Minister, 31% of respondents voted for Eknath Shinde and 18% for Uddhav Thackeray, and 12% preferred Devendra Fadnavis.
Elections in Maharashtra are largely a fight between the ruling Mahayuti alliance and the opposition MVA. Mahayuti fielded candidates in 149 seats from BJP, 81 from Shiv Sena (Shinde) and 59 from NCP (Ajit Pawar).
On the other hand, the MVA fielded candidates in 101 seats from Congress, 95 from Shiv Sena (UBT) and 86 from the Sharad Pawar faction of NCP. The election results will be announced on November 23.
