Social media has put out viral posters declaring Congress MLA from Julana and Olympian Vinesh Phogat as "missing. The caption of the posters read with a tinge of humor: "The search for the missing MLA. The entire assembly session has passed; MLA Madam was absent throughout. If anybody has seen her, please contact the people of Julana."
These satirical posters have been doing rounds on social media, taking a light-hearted jab at her absence in the recently held Haryana Assembly session.
Vinesh Phogat, the wrestler turned politician, won the Julana assembly seat on a Congress ticket and scored a victory over BJP candidate Yogesh Bairagi. She bagged 65,080 votes, while Bairagi got 59,065 votes. The candidate from INLD-BSP, Dr. Surender Lather, got 10,158 votes.
Phogat, who was elected for the first time as an MLA, did not attend the four-day Haryana Assembly session that concluded on November 19. She had been campaigning for Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi in Wayanad, followed by election duties in Maharashtra.
Sonu, PA of Phogat said that she had been designated as star campaigner by the Congress Party. She had been given campaigning duties in both Maharashtra and Jharkhand. She is busy campaigning and could not make it to the assembly session. But the issues in Julana constituency will always be at the forefront.
Earlier, the Olympian wrestler-turned-politician, Vinesh Phogat, on Monday questioned the relevance of the BJP slogan "Ek Hai Toh Safe Hai" (If we are united, we are safe), in the context of ongoing concerns about women's safety across the country.
Phogat made this point at a press conference held on the last day of the campaign for the assembly elections at Congress Bhavan in Pune. She also campaigned extensively for Priyanka Gandhi for the Lok Sabha bypolls of Wayanad in Kerala.
