Bollywood luminary and BJP nominee Kangana Ranaut, vying for the Mandi Lok Sabha constituency in Himachal Pradesh, engaged in a profound encounter on Monday as she visited the abode of Buddhist spiritual leader, The Dalai Lama, nestled in McLeodganj. Accompanied by former Himachal Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur, Ranaut expressed her sentiments after the rendezvous, describing it as an extraordinary experience basking in the aura of such a revered figure. She expressed profound emotions, remarking that the memory would remain etched in her heart for eternity.
This visit comes amidst a backdrop marked by a previous controversial incident involving Ranaut and The Dalai Lama. Last year, the actress faced severe backlash for a tweet featuring an edited image of The Dalai Lama alongside US President Joe Biden, which was perceived as insensitive by many in the Buddhist community.
In the electoral arena of Mandi, Ranaut finds herself in a contest against Congress' Vikramaditya Singh, son of the late six-time Chief Minister, Virbhadra Singh. Notably, the Mandi seat was previously held by Vikramaditya's mother, Pratibha Singh, a three-time MP, who opted out of the electoral race this time, citing unfavorable ground realities despite Congress' incumbency in the state.
